Carer

For carer related hazards possible risk factors are listed below.
For each risk factor there are things you can consider in order to minimise the risk.

This is not an exhaustive list. It is a tool to give you ideas that you might want to explore.

  1. Behaviour of concern
  2. Uncooperative
  3. Impulsive
  4. Inappropriate or disinhibited behaviours
  5. Wary of assistance
  6. Rushes pace of work
  7. Appears distrustful
    of Support Worker abilities and judgement
  8. Decreased ability to understand or follow direction
  9. Declining in ability to safely assist
  10. Not trained on safe manual handling work procedures
  11. Not trained on safe behavioural management work procedures
  12. Not trained in use of equipment
  13. Not meeting physical demands of task
  14. Not communicating needs, expectations or directions to others at time of service
  15. Trained but not performing safe work procedures
  16. Appears unsure, lacks confidence, fearful or overwhelmed with managing care
  17. Risk of injury due to late in pregnancy, ill, current or pre-existing injury/ medical condition, fatigue, inexperience
  18. Incorrect clothing (too tight or loose, open toe shoes, high heels, etc.)
  19. Personal Protective Equipment not: available, adequate or in use
